Guild of the Christ Child

The Guild of the Christ Child is a special ministry for growing families!
“Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me.”

What is the Guild of the Christ Child? The Guild of the Christ Child is an organization that serves to support families with infants and young children. The Guild works toward supporting families with prayers and personal communications prior to the new child’s arrival, after the birth or adoption of a child, celebrating with families at the hospital, home and at the time of their child’s baptism. We hope to help each family and young child find their place within the St. Peter’s church family.
When You Are Expecting A Child! The arrival of a new baby is a joyous and hectic time in each family’s life. As your church family, we share your joy and excitement. We also know that this can be an exhausting, worrisome and confusing time. Please notify the church as soon as you know you are expecting or preparing for an adoption. A member of the Guild of the Christ Child will tell you about all the things the church can provide for support during this busy time. Also notify the church as soon as the baby arrives, and a member of the Guild will visit to offer our best wishes from your church family. We would love to bring a welcome home meal at your convenience. Send a birth announcement to the church office and we will let the parish know of your blessed event.
When You are Ready to Worship with your Child for the First Time! When you are ready to attend worship services with your new-born for the first time, we would love to welcome your baby, but also realize the stress that just bringing your new arrival out in public may present. If you would like, please let your guild contact know when you are ready to attend worship services for the first time or call the church office to let them know. We would love to give you a small gift and take you on a quick tour of the nursery area to meet our professional nursery staff. You are certainly welcome to return to church even if you don’t call! We all just want to celebrate your new addition!
At Your Child’s Baptism The Sacrament of Baptism is a special time for each family. The first step is to call the church office and get a day and service on the calendar. St. Peter’s hopes to help celebrate this joyous occasion by offering a few small gifts to your child (a baptismal candle) and recognizing the importance with each family. Our knitting guild will prepare a special blessed blanket and our Brotherhood of St. Andrew considers it a privileged ministry to create a faith box to keep special Christian items (baptism certificate and perhaps confirmation papers or other Christian memories).
The Nursery: A Place for Our Smallest Members of the Church As parents of small children, whether you are long time members or visiting with us, you want to have peace of mind that your children are safe and well cared for while you worship and learn. It is important to ALWAYS leave your telephone number with workers, so they can message you during the service if you are needed. Our nursery provides professional childcare for children from birth to four years of age on Sunday mornings and for a variety of special activities throughout the parish church year. There is also an area within the nursery where you can feed/nurse your infant in a rocking chair. Your guild mentor will be happy to show you around the nursery when you return to church with your new baby.
You can help by becoming a member of the Guild, a mentor to expectant families! As a guild member, you will contact expectant families, pray for them, visit in the hospital or shortly after adoptions, and perhaps deliver a welcome home meal prepared by members of the guild. Expect to have a few meetings throughout the year to share with other members, ways we can grow this new ministry. We are also meeting for informal lunches after church on Sundays and perhaps meeting for play dates as the year progresses. Call the church office if you would like to participate. We would LOVE to have you as a member of the guild!
