Speaking of Silence: A Weekend with Bishop Brian Cole

November 4th, 5th, and 6th, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church

On Saturday, November 5th, Bishop Brian Cole (East Tennessee) will offer a teaching on the significance of silence in the Christian tradition, looking specifically at the practice of Centering Prayer. From the Contemplative Outreach website, the following definition is offered: “Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself.”

Along with the teaching time, there will be an opportunity for all gathered to experience praying in silence together. The day will be a chance to reflect on the theological implications for silence in Christian prayer and our daily lives, while also having a chance to practice together. Please RSVP for this free event.
